Welcome to our first weekly newsletter of Banwell Bowling Club's 2025 season.

Here you'll find news, pictures, reminders, some club business and other bits of information, plus a summary of the week's play in the match report. The weekly news will be on the website, as well as other public media, such as Facebook.

Items such as team sheets, requests to play and all member details are kept private via your membership logon to the website and app.

How do I know when team sheets are published?

If you had notifications last season, you should still be getting them. Otherwise:

  • Log into the website and go to the Clubhouse Chat page. You will see instructions on how to get a notification each time a team sheet is published.

  • On the app, tap the Clubhouse Chat tab, and the team sheets section should be in front of you. Click follow

In both cases, if you see the word following, you should already be receiving notifications. Give Kim a shout if you get stuck.

Of course, team sheets are also available on the board in the club house, following selection.

Check your competition entries!

Wendy has compiled lists of the competitions you have entered this year. They were published in Clubhouse Chat, so you may have had a notification. Click here to see them, and be sure you are entered in the correct ones before 27th April, after which the draws will be taking place.

Welcoming new members

We are always pleased to see new people at our club, and are offering free sessions to those who want to try bowling, with a view to joining us. Look out for the posters; Dee will be delivering them around Banwell, with some going further afield.

In addition we have signed up again for the Bowls England Bowls Big Weekend and will be holding our open day on 24th May, the day the ladies play the men. We will be looking for volunteers who may not be playing in the match but would like to take part.

Please let Wendy know if you can help on the day.

President's Day 2025
President's Day 2025

Presidents Day 12/4/25

We start the season, as ever, with Presidents Day welcoming into the fold new and old. Barry held a moment of contemplation for those true friends who passed since last we met.

Hillary won the spider event which kick started the day with, as tradition dictates, the President's team winning, clawing back an eight shot deficit to win his rink.

A huge thank you has to go to all those who helped on the day, in particular Bob and Janice Grant seamlessly running the bar on a busy day, and also Paul Aldus and his merry crew for having the green in such good condition.

A good day, fine weather and even better company. What more can you ask for?

Eastover mixed friendly 14/4/25

It was a chilly, grey day with the green running heavy to start with, after the rain.

The afternoon saw us end our first friendly fixture with a loss by 5 shots, despite winning close battles in 3 of the 4 rinks. A heavy loss to yours truly turned the tide, unfortunately. A good time was had, however.

I would personally like to thank you all for your support and help. It is a privilege and an honour to captain this great club.

Thanks to Bob and Janice and Dee, as always, for organising the bar and raffle.

Mike Nickson

Club Captain
