Monthly Green Report, 26th May 2026
Pusher Usage Now Approved
An inspection of the green was carried out with our contractors today (26 May):
Following a thorough assessment of the green's current firmness, the use of pushers is now permitted.
Note: This approval is conditional on proper usage and remains subject to review should weather and green conditions change dramatically.
Weather & Irrigation
-
Late April: A short, hot, dry spell required the utilisation of the sprinkler system.
-
May Overview: Following a period of almost constant showers, the recent Bank Holiday weekend and into this week has brought very hot weather.
-
Recent Action: Due to the very hot spell, the green was watered twice in the early hours of Sunday 24 May and Tuesday 26 May. It will be watered alternate days during this hot spell. There is currently no requirement to use the new hose and applicator for localised application of wetting agent.
Green Maintenance & Condition
-
Treatments Applied: The green has received two monthly spray applications of Wetting Agent (H2 Pro Tri Smart) and Seaweed bio-stimulant (Ultimax). In April, 1kg of Fescue/Bent grass seed mix was applied to sparse areas.
-
Aeration: Prior to the latest wetting agent application, the green was aerated using the Groundsman mechanical device.
-
Mowing Schedule: Green contractors are currently mowing three times per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings). The cut height has been lowered to 4mm. Mowers are now fitted with groomers to provide light scarification during each cut.
-
Upcoming Treatments: Starting next month, monthly sprays will be expanded to include liquid Nitrogen Fertiliser.
-
Current Condition: The recent very hot spell is a concern but there is no dry patch in the green currently and it continues to look good. The grass is still growing quite quickly. 4 boxes of clippings were taken off during mowing today (26 May). The recent very hot dry weather, combined with increased play, should see the surface speed pick up.
-
Pest/Weed Control: Some Pearlwort is present. It is not currently affecting bowling and is not a major issue (conditions have been worse in previous years). It is being spot-treated in the hope of avoiding a full-green herbicide spray, which is both expensive and environmentally unfriendly.

Additionally, our standing water bill is £74.00 per month.
Capital Expenditure Warning: Pump Shed
The main supports of the pump shed are completely rotten, having been previously weakened by woodworm. These must be replaced.
-
While the exact repair solution is still being finalised, the cost is anticipated to exceed £1,000.
-
Committee Action Required: The committee needs to consider and discuss fundraising methods to cover these impending costs.
