Over 55s at home away to Mark Moor, 27th Aug
Another good win and double over Mark Moor; on our rink it was played in a very friendly spirit as bowls should be played, until our lead shouted down the green that we were not playing to the rules on the game.
I will now tell you what occurred and the ruling according to the Laws of the game. I bowled my woods out of turn; neither of us skips noticed the mistake, until our lead started shouting. In the meantime we were holding five shots. Their skip bowled his last wood got a lucky wick and reduced the shots to two.
The law as it stands, Section 2 ( irregularities during play), 29.1 Playing out of turn,
29.1.3. if the bowl has disturbed the head the opposing skip must choose whether to:
29.3.1. leave the disturbed head as it is:
29.3.2. replace the head in its former position:
29.3.3. declare a dead end.
As I was guilty of going out turn, my opposing skip chose to let the end stand which was in accordance with the laws of the game, SO WE DID PLAY TO THE RULES OF THE GAME.
Enough of the lecture!
Harry Woodard and his rink are this weeks top rink by winning by a comfortable 15 shot so well done.
The stats were Banwell 117 shots, Mark Moor 88 shots. Points - Banwell 16, Mark Moor 4.
My thanks to Dave Williams for stepping at the last moment.
Thanks to you all and well played.

Mixed friendly at home against touring side, Newbury and Hungerford bowling clubs, 1st Sept
We had a very sociable match against the touring team, who were 2 separate clubs, but touring together. We narrowly lost, but had a good day played fairly across the board.

In other news....
Finals day is this coming Saturday, 7th Sept, with one match being played on 8th. The schedule has been sent out to all. Click here to view.
If you are not playing on the day, please come along and support. We are having a 'bring a plate' buffet lunch to support our finalists, but also to celebrate a special day for Mal and Chris Laycock, on their 50th wedding anniversary. They will be celebrating in their usual spot, behind the bar, so please come along and join in - and bring some finger food to share.
Don't forget to return all the trophies you have - give them a good clean and polish, and return to the clubhouse before the finals.
