Steepholmers raise the clubhouse roof!

A fantastic evening was had by all last night, when the Steepholmers sang sea shanties in front of an audience of over 40, raising £115 for the RNLI. A great time was had by all, with everyone joining in for the finale.

Thanks to Mike Dolling for organising the event, and to the very talented members of the group, some of whom were a bit hoarse by the end! Click here to see more photos and videos.

New technology for the 2026 season

As you probably know, we won a Tesco Stronger Starts award this year to do a project involving our website and app, with some new technology for the clubhouse. Read on for more detail of what this involves, as well as a few other developments on the website and app.

Do you use our website?

First of all, it would be good to know how our online resources are currently used by our members. Please can you help by clicking yes or no to each of the 2 questions below; I will ask them again at the end of the project. Your answers will be anonymous.

Do you regularly use the Spaces app?

  • Yes

  • No

The aim of the project is to help our members feel confident using technology.

I wouldn't know where to start!

If this is how you feel about using technology, then our project is definitely for you. Our new equipment will be live for the start of the season. You can use the tablet based on the bar to use our website or app - there will be help available if you get stuck.

Our new tablet

On the desktop you will see an icon for each of the local bowling clubs - if they have a website.

You can also easily access Bowls England, Somerset Bowls and even the weather!

There will also be a device on the wall next to the notice board, where you can request to play, look up fixtures, reserve a rink, send messages to other members and other club-related things. Look out for the easy-to-use guides - and give it a go!

Fixtures List

The fixtures list is now on the Spaces app as well as the website. Just scroll along the top menu and you will see it.

The text in the list is small due to the amount of information, but if you tap the screen, it will open and you will be able to expand it as you would with a photo.

It's ideal for quick reference if you don't have your diary to hand, or to find a match before you tap the next menu item along to Request to play.

Reserve a rink

For informal roll ups or competition matches, players should reserve a rink by adding their name to the rink booking sheet on the wall in the clubhouse. However, this is not well-used, and entails being in the clubhouse to see if there is a rink free on the day you want, as well as to reserve one.

We now have both functions live on the website and the app. This means that you can see what's available from anywhere and reserve a rink from anywhere, using your phone, PC or tablet, or the new equipment in the clubhouse.

Once you've reserved a rink, you will receive a confirmation email and a reminder the day before. You can also cancel from here, should the need arise.

In other news.....

Pre-Season drinks

Just a quick reminder about the pre-season drinks in the clubhouse on Saturday 21st March. It will be a chance to get together, catch up with people and hear the latest club news. If you have friends who would like to try bowling, why not bring them along?

Looking forward to the start of the season on 11th April - President's Day
