Short mat victory for the ladies... and other news

On Saturday afternoon, it was raining AGAIN. However, in the clubhouse it was warm with the sound laughter and chat, and the occasional soft clatter of woods colliding.

The short mat was not quite short enough for the clubhouse floor, so, in an inventive move, Mike Dolling used the extra piece as a doormat - and bridge - across the playing surface from the door, thus preventing a soggy area in the middle.

We were playing men vs ladies. The teams were picked and the match got under way. Those not playing (and one or two who were) propped up the bar.

Mike, Jim and Martin inched ahead of Doreen, Sue and Wendy as Mike, ever hopeful, added the scores to the board.

After a while, there was a cheer from the ladies and handshakes all around, as the ladies thrashed the men by 13 points to 6.

All-in-all, everyone had a fun afternoon, with a bit of lighthearted competition to fend off the rain.

....apart from Mike, who as you can see in this photo, had a rare grumpy moment after losing the match and decided to take away the mat in disgust......

Just joking!

Funding news

We are delighted to announce that the club has been allocated a grant of £500 following our tokens campaign at Tesco. Of course, we have to do the project we set out to do when we applied for the grant. Thanks to those on Saturday who helped trial some equipment and gave their views on how it should be used.

Look out for news about this in the coming weeks, and some differences in the clubhouse at the start of the season!

Steepholmers, 12th March, 7 for 7.30pm

People are RSVPing to our musical event here, and it promises to be an entertaining evening.

It's £3 entry at the door, with all proceeds going to the RNLI. Friends and family are welcome.

And finally....

Don't forget our pre-season drinks in the clubhouse on Saturday 21st March at 3pm.
