Match Report, week beginning 21st April 2024

Row of skips in the sun

North Somerset Mixed League, at home against Congresbury, 22nd April

Congratulations to Wayne Butcher for his debut as captain. We had a tight game, ending in a narrow loss.

Mixed Friendly at home against touring side Liberty of Havering, Essex, 23rd April

After a late start, as Liberty arrived back late from a morning trip to Wells, the visitors had a good match, but the result went our way.

As you can see from the photo, the weather was good, and made for an enjoyable afternoon.

Men's friendly at home against Congresbury, 24th April

Despite losing 4 of the 6 rinks, we have our own President Barry Taylor's rink to thank with a 26-9 win as well as Alan Shattock's team picking up a five on the last end.

Mixed friendly at home against West Backwell, 26th April

A debut for Brian Davis. Unfortunately, he played for the opposition as they failed to fill their rinks. He won't be playing for anyone else but ourselves this year, as he ran away with a 20 plus shot win which tilted the score against us.

Tony Hyde Memorial Shield, 28th April

It was cold, but the weather held nicely all day. Apart from a bit of dog walking shenanigans which threatened to delay the start (thanks for filling in, Wendy), a good day was had by all.

Word got round that Phil was at the bar with a £20 note!!
The scores

Three teams went unbeaten all day. Alan Vickery's team narrowly missed out on a final spot. Skip Hillary Guckian, along with Mike Turnbull and Shawn White, won a couple of earlier matches by a wide margin, so were favourites to win.

Lee Bean, Kim Wright and skip Phil Villis battled hard in the final but were no match for team Guckian.

Congratulations go to Hilary, Shaun and Mike for winning the day, and for Mike's 2nd year running as part of the winning team.

It was great to see Chick (Graham) Coffin back and playing on a tiring day for most, but especially for Chick - well done!.

And Finally....

In our first major senior moment of the year, a mix-up on the clothing front saw Terry B lose his phone and keys as a mystery member wandered off in his jacket. After an extensive search and many calls to Terry's phone, we gave up and Terry left his car in the car park.

Luckily the jacket was found the next day - phew!

A big shout out to Wendy and Chris for their tireless efforts as always with the refreshments and the bar.

Mike Nickson

Vice Captain
