Having a ball at the bingo!

It's that time again, where Trevor grabs his bingo balls and off we go on a Banwell Bowling Club barmy, boozy and boisterous blockbuster of an evening.

Off we go!

The club was full of people waiting in eager anticipation for the bingo to start. Angela and Steve were scrabbling for pens, with Brian feeling the ambience in the room and looking forward the entertainment to come.

Trevor shouted for quiet and the competition began. It was £5 for a line and £20 for house. The tension was palpable, with newer members quietly sniggering as they got to grips with Trevor's 'unusual' bingo-calling phrases. Calls of 'line' and 'house' soon followed, with Martina ably assisting Trevor by doing all the running around to check the winners' cards.

Bingo, but not as we know it....

Not content with plain bingo, Trevor introduced a couple of novelty rounds.

The bingo quiz involved putting answers to questions in numbered boxes to complete a set of five, before calling 'house'. Quizmaster Trevor then checked that the set of five were correct. This caused much hilarity, when team after team got one or more answers wrong.

The eventual winner claimed the prize and we resumed the normal bingo.... and, by the way, Noddy's hat was blue!

Later in the evening, Trevor introduced standing-up bingo, a variation on the traditional game, involving legs rather than pens. Jim was one of the last to sit down, and just missed out on the prize.

The interval

Martina had made yummy ham and cheese rolls for half-time, which were demolished with gusto. Many had donated prizes for the raffle, which provided a fun diversion from the main event.

With a prize pot of £80, the atmosphere in the room was tense as everyone concentrated on marking the final card. Cheers went up as the the winner shouted 'house' and the evening came to an end.

A good time was had by all

We all had great fun, and raised well over £100 for club funds.

Many thanks to Trevor and Martina for their all their hard working in putting on the evening, and to Chris and Mal for their excellent bar work, as usual.
