Following the excitement of last week's Triples Day competition and BBQ, members turned up on Monday evening for an informal rollup, and again on Tuesday afternoon for a rollup to replace the mixed friendly cancelled by Eastover.
It was a fun afternoon playing across the green for a change, although brown dry
patches interspersed with lush grass made the bowling a bit tricky. Still, a fun time was had by all.
The highlight of the week was Trevor's bingo night.
Trevor called out the numbers with his usual aplomb, adding a bingo quiz and last person standing prize. As you can see, Janice had no pockets but lots of winnings, so had to find a place to put them....
Many snacks were eaten as the bingo progressed, then the event was finished off with a raffle. Thanks to Trevor for an entertaining evening.

Finals Day
It's less than a week to go until finals day. If you are not playing, feel free to come along and support. The order of play is below, as well as on the website (click here) and the app (scroll along to the Internal competitions tab):

Last year we enjoyed a shared lunch and we are planning to do the same again this year. Just bring along a plate of savoury (or sweet) goodies which can be shared in a buffet. Lunch will be at the end of the first matches (12 to 12.30pm).

This is also a reminder to last year's winners to bring their lovely shiny cups and shields back for presentations after the matches.
So far, the weather is looking good for the day, so come along and enjoy some excellent and competitive bowling.
In Other News....

Our final social event of the year is our annual quiz, featuring Trevor as quizmaster. It's on 20th September, starting at 7pm, with teams of 4 to 6 people. You can arrange your team in advance, or pal up with spare people on the night.

Let us know if you are coming, so that we can plan tables, etc; click here to RSVP on the website, or scroll along to the Events tab on the app. Either way, click the RSVP button for each person in your team - 6 team members, 6 RSVPs.
Come early to get a good table, and don't forget to bring your snacks! As usual, we will be doing a raffle - please bring a prize if you can.
Don't forget...
.... to sign up for Captain's Day on 13th September. Click here to book via the website, or use to the Request to play tab on the app.
It's the last day of the season, so our final opportunity to play and socialise before the green closes for the winter. There will be food, and I'm sure Bob will be wanting to lower the bar stocks - hopefully, we can make our usual annual effort to drink the club dry!

Match Report
Over 55s away at Mark Moor, Thurs 28th Aug
Captains' decision to cancel due to waterlogged green. Rink points were shared - 6 points each.
North 1 A team away at Victoria, Sat 30th Aug
The A team travelled to Victoria for this week's league encounter, and some of us actually dared to try the car park - ending up getting a prime spot, which is rare on a Saturday with two teams playing.
The weather didn't promise much for the afternoon, and fairly quickly after the start, the rain came down fairly hard. Coats were hastily put on; this didn't dampen Banwell's fighting spirit though as, despite all three rinks going behind early, parity was soon restored and leads established.
Chris Wilson's four came out solid winners by 21-14. Hilary Guckian's rink made short work of their opponents with two sixes in succession mid-game, coming out 28-17 winners.
Barry Taylor's rink left it late from 5 down on end 18, to pick up 7 shots in the last three to win 19-17 giving Banwell a clean sweep of the points.
Banwell 68-48 Victoria

North 1 B team at home to Wedmore, Sat 30th Aug
With all players finally arrived, due to traffic problems caused by a motorway accident and rain easing, the game got off to a late start. The heavy rain made the green very slow and difficult to reach for many players.
Wedmore found the green better on 2 rinks for the first 4 ends, but Trevor Garfield’s rink found it better on rink 3.
Then the rain again came down stopping play for a brief time. Back out after the rain eased, with Trevor’s rink playing an equal game and the Mal Laycock and Alan Vickery rinks unable to pull back the loss from earlier.
At 12 ends the rain came down again and the 2 captains decided enough was enough.
The game was won by Wedmore 35 shots to 22 and 11 points to 1.
